Harnessing the power of modelling to drive decision making

Accurate and reliable analytical and financial modelling is essential for understanding the impact of change. With advances in new technologies, treatments, and new care models, there has never been a more important time for organisations to use the power of modelling to drive decision making. But the power of modelling as a decision making tool can only be harnessed if the outputs are fully understood and placed in the appropriate context.

SCL supports NHS organisations to adapt existing models or to develop bespoke models depending on need. We start by ensuring that there is a thorough and shared understanding of the question which the modelling is required to answer, and design the model for that purpose. We help our clients to validate and standardise data, define relevant assumptions and develop the calculation engine. Most importantly, we ensure that the outputs provide practical insight by helping our clients to understand the implications for their financial and operational position, in order to drive effective ‘real world’ decision making.

We have significant experience of supporting out NHS clients with the following areas in particular:

  • financial modelling to support capital and revenue investment decisions;
  • demand and capacity modelling; and
  • analytical modelling to support business and operational planning.
